The invite to the official reception with the consular-general and the mayor of Perth came in the mail today (delivered to the wrong address, although I submitted my new address three times. Hopefully not a sign of communication in Japan) on nice paper, inviting me and my partner to an address in Peppermint Grove (where I will park my spluttering, coughing, wheezing, chain-smoking 1984 Mitsubishi Colt in the street outside the gate and walk up to the door, ‘lounge suit’ and ‘partner’ in tow. At least my car’s Japanese) the dress, as you may have guessed, is a ‘lounge suit’ I wonder if the females received the same request, Tamara and I could both arrive in suits, that’d go down well.
Apparently (according to Wikipedia) a lounge suit is a regular suit worn without a waistcoat, which sucks because a waistcoat is the most exciting part about wearing a suit. Not that I own a waistcoat.
Other than that, I added (and updated a little bit) a links and photos page here. All I’ve put up so far is a couple of links to blogs about Japan I discovered. I’ve got a roll of film left over from Tokyo that I’ll take, develop and scan before I go.
Goodnight. Off to read more about Canned Coffee.
